2008 INTERNATIonal governor's cup tournament recap

With just days to go before the 2008 IGCT event, the tournament organizers had informal committments from over 30 teams. But, with the drastic collapse of the US and World financial markets happening at the same time, many teams left to weather the storm at home or simply could not make it down in time to fish the tourney. Nonetheless, we still had 9 teams and 46 participants stay and fish a modified one-day tourament with trophies going to the top 3 marlin release teams and the notable honor of an invitation to the 2009 IGFA Offshore Championship going to the first place team.

Our tournament format allows any team to enter in just one or any number of the five divisions. When you enter any division, you're automatically entered in that division's daily jackpots as well. Enter across the board and your team competes in all Five Divisions and Daily Jackpots!!

PARTICIPATE AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE
By participating in the International Governors Cup Tournament, you'll be doing more than competing for prize money, you'll also be contributing to the betterment of the Los Cabos community. The IGCT is proud to support 3 charitable projects. 100% of your TOURNAMENT REGISTRATION FEE ($500 per team) will be donated to the following 3 projects. Casa del Abuelito Feliz - a board and care facility for the elderly; Casa Hogar - a home for orphaned or displaced boys; and Casa Cuna - a home for girls and infants. CONSERVATION MINDED COMPETITION
The IGCT has the support of both The Billfish Foundation (TBF) and the International Game Fish Association (IGFA). Our tournament adheres to IGFA rules for competitive sport fishing and we strongly support conservation measures to ensure the fishery remains healthy for the future. We mandate the use of circle-hooks only for all natural baits - live or dead. Our modified release format - with high minimum weight requirements and stiff penalties for underweight fish - is meant to encourage sustainable sport fishing practices.

THE INTERNATIONAL GOVERNORS CUP TOURNAMENT IS A QUALIFYING EVENT FOR THE 2010 INTERNATIOAL GAME FISH ASSOCIATION (IGFA) OFFSHORE CHAMPIONSHIP!
We're proud to report that Bonnier Corporation and the IGFA have approved the IGCT as a qualifying event for the 2010 IGFA Offshore World Championship. The winning team from the 2009 IGCT event will be eligible for this prestigious invitation-only tournament.
